Ms Hillman caught the epic fight as she wandered past Severn River at her property in Ballandean, Queensland.

“At the river this morning !!!!!!! A truly gargantuan battle,” she wrote.

The video is the stuff of nightmares and shows the larger brown-coloured snake trapping the black snake’s tail in its fangs.

The black snake retaliates by striking its foe just below its head.

There was speculation over what type of reptile was fighting the red-bellied black snake, but snake catcher Tony Harrison confirmed it was the highly venomous spotted black snake.

Ms Hillman said the terrifying battle was “awesome to watch”.

“The brown snake won in the end,” she wrote on Facebook.

“But he was bitten so many times by the black that I don’t know if he will end up dying anyway.”

She claims she was at the right place at the right time and watched the action for about an hour.

Many were shocked by the terrifying footage, with one saying they were “freaking out”.

“Looks like I’m having nightmares tonight,” another said.

The latest battle comes just a month after a goanna and snake faced off in rural Western Australia.

In a blink of an eye, the goanna pounces on the snake, grabbing it with its mouth and thrashing it around.
