I’m A Celebrity’s Beau Ryan opens up about parenting regret: ‘Not present’

He’s provided plenty of entertaining moments so far on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, but Beau Ryan showed a softer side to his personality on Wednesday night when he opened up about his family life.

Chatting with fellow campmates Dylan Lewis and Cal Wilson on their ‘jungle podcast’, Highlights, Happiness and Ham, the former NRL star admitted that he wishes he was more available for his nine-year-old daughter Remi when she was younger.

“When people ask ‘What do you look forward to most?’, I just want to be there with my son or my daughter,” he said.

“Because I've had times that I regret, like looking at when my daughter was real little where I was not present.”

Beau explained that he now enjoys spending a month in winter and a month in summer with Remi where they “train for cross country”.

“We do two laps at 6:30, but the end goal is the coffee shop and I want to have a coffee with her and she has a hot chocolate, so the running just disarms her for the hot chocolate and that’s what I want the most,” he detailed.

“But when I'm with them and they’re asking me things that have nothing to do about me, that’s that's what I'm the happiest.”

Speaking to the cameras, fellow contestant and Olympic champion Emily Seebohm remarked that she loves hearing Beau open up about his family.

“The way he talks about his wife, the way he talks about his kids, you can just see from the inside out, he just glows whenever he mentions them,” she remarked.

Beau shared a heartwarming tribute to his daughter Remi on social media last month when celebrating her ninth birthday.

“Happy Birthday to my princess Rem Rem,” he wrote. “I’m so proud to be your Dad. I love you more than I can put into words. Keep being you and know that you’ll ride shotgun with me forever.”

Alongside the sweet caption, which included the hashtag ‘daddy’s girl’, Beau shared a selfie gallery of the pair sitting in the front seat of his car on several different occasions.

The Amazing Race host also shares a four-year-old son named Jesse with his wife Kara, who he’s been married to since 2012.

Beau’s comments come shortly after he and Joey Essex were called out by Poh Ling Yeow for their constant complaining in the I’m A Celebrity camp.

The former MasterChef star said she wanted to “kill” her co-stars for devouring the camp’s leftover porridge after dinner, despite others having barely eaten anything.

“I don't like seeing people be made to feel uncomfortable,” she said during her confessional.

“And clearly Red Team had so little tonight, and there were still a couple of people - we know who they are - on the Blue Team, they were onto the porridge, and this is getting a bit tedious.”

In the camp, Beau and Joey were shown eating their extra food and selfishly remarking that it “tastes better than the morning”.

Poh, who was sitting opposite the duo, then muttered, “God, I want to kill people”, followed by Cal Wilson who said, “Me too”.
