Hunt for mystery lottery winner who scooped mega $4.8 million jackpot

The lucky winner held the only division one winning entry and is now 'set for life'.

Aussies are being urged to check their tickets after Monday night's mega Set for Life draw with lottery officials on the hunt for the country's newest multi-millionaire.

One lucky Aussie has become significantly richer overnight after taking out a humongous lottery win, but they still don't know of their $4.8 million fortune waiting to be claimed.

The lucky winner held the only division one winning entry nationally, scooping the entire jackpot. They will take home the prize which is paid in instalments of $20,000 a month for 20 years — so it's safe to say they truly are set for life.

However, because the winning entry is unregistered, officials from The Lott have no way of contacting the winner to break the life-changing news. Instead, Aussies are being urged to check their tickets and for the winner to come forward and claim their prize.

The winning entry was purchased at SuperStar Lucky Lotto in Cranbourne, Melbourne. The store manager Khanh Nguyen said it was a wonderful prize to win with Christmas right around the corner.

Aussies hoping for another big win on Tuesday night

The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said she couldn’t wait to unite Victoria’s latest division one winner with their annuity prize.

"We’re urging all players who purchased a Set for Life ticket from SuperStar Lucky Lotto to check their tickets today,” she said. "Imagine how exciting it would be to realise you’ve just won Set for Life. Your plans for the next 20 years would certainly change with those extra digits in your bank account!"

The news comes as Aussies brace for tonight's mega Oz Lotto jackpot which has $70 million up for grabs. It's the biggest prize offered for the game in more than four years and the second-biggest prize offered by any Australian lottery game this year, surpassed only by Powerball's $100 million jackpot in August.
