Hummer driver's car park 'road rage attack' divides opinion

A man’s run-in with a Hummer driver over a parking space has divided opinion after the pair got into a heated argument in Sydney’s southwest.

Video of the incident, obtained by Dash Cam Owners Australia, shows a Hummer pull up to a parking space at Bass Hill Plaza on Sunday.

The man filming, who’s unseen in his car, claims he’s just finished loading his groceries and is making a phone call to a friend.

The Hummer has its indicator on waiting to take the parking space. He beeps the horn.

“I’m making a phone call, mate,” the man filming says.

The Hummer pulls up next to him and the driver steps out. The man explains to him he’s making a call.

“I’m asking you question - are you going?” he says.

“What’s that for?”

The dashcam owner again explains he’s making a call and the Hummer driver accuses him of performing a rude gesture.

“Why would you give me the bird?” he says.

The man responds, “because you were beeping”.

He then asks if he’s leaving to which he again says he’s making a phone call and will be “one minute”.

The Hummer driver accuses him of being a “rude f***” and a car door slams.

“I’m about to go, let me make my phone call and you’ll get your spot,” he says as the Hummer driver continues to protest.

“Relax.”

A man in high-vis speaks with the Hummer driver and he steps back into his car.

“It’s all on camera, mate,” the dashcam owner says.

“You just realised that, hey?”

The Hummer drives off. It’s not clear what the driver says but him and the dashcam owner exchange a few more barbs.

‘Both to blame’

On Facebook, people were divided by the behaviour of the two men.

“I’m so tired of impatient aggressive slobs wanting everything their own way, most normal drivers would move on to find another park,” one man wrote.

“But no this lunatic has to block traffic, get all abusive to someone just to make himself feel better and make himself look like who he truly is on Facebook to millions of viewers.

“Well done big man.”

However, some people believe the man filming was “inconsiderate” and provoked the Hummer driver.

“Why did you give him the bird?” one woman wrote.

“If you had your head down on your phone maybe he thought you didn't know he was there and beeped to get your attention? I don't agree with his reaction but I think the incident could have been avoided if you just waved yes or no?”

One man wrote it’s a car park “not a Goddamn phone booth”.

“All he had to do was poke his head out the window and say something like, ‘I'm just making a quick call will be out of here in a minute’,” another man wrote.

Other people suggested both men were to blame for their argument.

“Both drivers are egotistical, ill-mannered morons,” one man wrote.

Another man accused both men of having “thin skins”.

“Both to blame to be honest,” he wrote.

“DC driver for being rude and flipping him off, and the rager for overreacting. But can see what happened, DC driver got triggered by the impatient beeps then the guy gets triggered by the up yours.”

Another man wrote it was an “overreaction on both sides”.
