Government considers stripping Australian citizenship from extremists of foreign descent

The Australian government is considering stripping extremists of their Australian citizenship if they’re dual citizens or entitled to foreign citizenship by descent.

It’s been revealed the majority of the 400 individuals monitored by ASIO are either dual citizens or entitled to acquire foreign citizenship.

Currently these jihadis would only have their Australian passport cancelled so they can’t leave the country, but many have argued that they should be allowed to depart and then not let back in.

The plan is being discussed, but some MPs have expressed concern at the prospect of leaving an Australian citizen stateless.
