Farmer scores $1.3 million Lotto win after 'rough trot'

A Bowhill farmer has become an overnight millionaire after winning the weekend’s Saturday X Lotto draw.

The South Australian man took home $1,304,946.92 after scoring one of five division one wins in Saturday X Lotto draw 4183, drawn on August 21.

The man purchased a winning 18 game QuickPick entry at Mannum Green IGA Fresh in Mannum.

The winning numbers of the evening’s draw were 40, 34, 43, 35, 6 and 19, with supplementary numbers 45 and 22.

The evening’s draw awarded five division one winners - three from Queensland and one from the Northern Territory, in addition to the South Australian farmer.

“It will really make a great difference to my family,” the man told The Lott.

“It’s been a bit of a rough trot for everyone, so it’s just fantastic.”

He also said that he had been playing the Lotto for a long time, but had never before experienced such a large win.

With his winnings, the man said he planned to help out his family, upgrade his farm, and fund his retirement.

Representatives from The Lott have previously given expert tips to help players maximise their chances of winning, including researching the entry types and numbers used by previous lottery winners.

Farmer took some convincing to ‘comprehend’ win

The South Australian winner of the Saturday X Lotto draw 4183 said he was in disbelief when he checked his numbers online.

“I thought I might have won a lot of money, but I just couldn’t believe it,” he said.

Speaking to a representative of The Lott, the man took some convincing to believe he had won.

“I don’t know if I believe this,” he said.

“Are you sure? Are you really sure?”

“I don’t know what’s going on to be honest,” he said.

Upon confirmation, the man reacted with disbelief.

“I don’t know what to think, what to do, or how to feel right now,” he said.

“I am very very overwhelmed - I am really stunned.”

“I just can’t comprehend the news,” he said.

After some convincing from The Lott representative, the man was overjoyed, and said he was going to celebrate.

“I can’t believe I’m a millionaire,” he said.

“I might go have a cup of tea and a biscuit and go and relax now that you’ve told me it’s true.”

The man’s disbelieved reaction is not uncommon, with people reportedly hanging up on The Lott officials, assuming the winning phone call is a scam.

Lotto win ‘great’ for local community

The owner of the South Australian IGA that sold a winning Lotto ticket said that they were excited to learn of the win.

John Naylor told a representative for The Lott: “it’s not only great for our winner, but it’s fantastic for us and for our local community.”

Mr Naylor said that a number of locals had been coming in and checking their tickets, to see if they were the lucky millionaires.

“They’re also so happy for the winner, especially considering the year we’ve all had,” he said.

Mr Naylor offered his congratulations to the farmer, and wished for more local wins in the future.

“We’d love to send our congratulations. We hope this win makes a big difference to his life, and we are grateful for his support of the business,” he said.

“Fingers crossed our customers get to experience more division one wins.”

There are plenty more chances to win big, with Oz Lotto offering $2 million on Tuesday night, and Thursday's Powerball offering an $8 million grand prize.

The Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize is now $2.68 million for draw 1542, while the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot prize is now $1.93 million for draw 10486.
