Why man almost missed $100,000 lottery phone call

A man from Sydney's west says he almost didn't answer a life-changing phone call, believing the person on the other end was going to try and sell him solar panels.

The man from Greystanes in western Sydney had the first prize in Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw number 10472, which was drawn on Monday.

Following the draw, The Lott contacted the man to alert him to the good news, however, he almost didn't answer.

“As soon as I saw the phone ringing, I thought you were from solar or electricity trying to sell me something like the usual," he admitted.

The man said he had an "intense" day at work, so the news of his $100,000 lottery win has taken the pressure off just a bit and was most welcome.

“You’ve seriously made my day, even year. I can’t believe it!” he said.

"We all live and hope for the day we win, and I’ve actually won."

The man admitted he had no idea he had won and that he has "never won s**t" in his life.

The $100,000 is going to "take a load off" for the man, saying he is going to put his winnings towards bills, though he does plan on celebrating by sharing some champagne with his wife.

“It’s going to be a big boost. It’s been a tough time this year," he said.

“I can’t wait to celebrate with my family. My wife will be happy to receive a bottle of champagne.”

The Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot prize now sits at $6.61 million for draw 10473.

Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot and Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot differ from other games offered by The Lott, as they are both raffle-style games with a set number of tickets, all of which are unique.

"Each game has two draws – one that determines the winning numbers and one that determines the jackpot number," The Lott explained.

"If the jackpot number matches one of the winning numbers, then the Jackpot Prize is won. If the jackpot number does not match one of the winning numbers, the Jackpot Prize will climb for the next draw."
