Lotto winner vows to buy his mum a house with $850,000 prize

A Queensland man in his 30s has vowed to buy his mum a house after winning $852,722 in Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw.

The man was one of seven division-one winners to score the hefty sum, but didn’t realise it until he checked his ticket on Wednesday night, The Lott said.

When contacted by lottery officials, the man said the win was “life-changing”.

“I saw an email from The Lott last night (Tuesday) and I couldn’t believe it. But I got on to the app and saw it. I couldn’t sleep after that,” he said.

“I’m going to help my mum – going to go and buy her a house, so she doesn’t have to pay rent anymore.

“I’ll get a house as well. I’ll be able to set us all up.”

The lucky winner revealed he had only just started playing Lotto.

“I never used to play. It was only about six weeks ago that I thought, ‘you’ve got to be in it to win it’, but I never really thought I’d be a division-one winner. But now it’s happened! To be debt-free is amazing,” he said.

Of the seven winners in Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw 4159, four were from Queensland, two from Western Australia and one from Victoria.
