'Dog act': Desperate plea after 'disgusting' offence against veteran

A desperate war veteran has posted a sign pleading for the return of a sentimental Australian flag.

The flag was stolen from a home at Hawthorne, in Brisbane’s east, in an act dubbed by many as “un-Australian”.

Following the theft the Vietnam veteran stuck a cardboard sign to his fence pleading with the culprit to return the flag.

“Whoever stole my Australian flag please (it has two bullet holes in it) consider returning it,” the sign read.

“I have had it since South Vietnam in 1965.”

A picture of the sign was posted to Facebook, leaving many other Australians disgusted by the incident.

The post said the flag had no monetary value but was irreplaceable to the veteran.

“How f***ing unAustralian … Dog act,” one person wrote.

Another said: “It’s just disgusting why would you steal a flag.”

Many Australians said they had respect for what the war veteran had done for the country and called for the thief to do the right thing.

“I can’t believe any Australian person would do this. If you are, total shame on you,” one said.

“Have respect for this man and give it back. He fought for our country.”
