Cotton On worker touched by kind 'fairy' spreading Christmas spirit

A kind Sydney resident took it upon herself to leave sweet Christmas gifts in random places around her local area for people to find.

A kind stranger's thoughtful act ahead of Christmas has blown away residents in her community, many of whom have praised the "beautiful" deeds on social media.

Molly, from the Sutherland Shire in Sydney, said she was finishing up a long day at work at Cotton On in Westfield Miranda this week when she noticed something had been left on the counter. On closer inspection, the retail worker realised it was a small, handmade Christmas wreath with a sweet note attached that had been left for someone to find.

"I'm not lost I'm just alone if I made you smile please take me home. Merry Christmas," the note reads.

Molly was thrilled to have stumbled across the crocheted gift and went straight home to hang it on her Christmas tree. She told Yahoo News Australia "it was such a nice way to end my shift".

She said she only noticed it after the store closed, and she was tidying up. "They'd obviously bought something and when it was their turn at the register, they left it for someone to find," she said.

Community blown away by 'lovely gesture'

Feeling touched by the "lovely" gesture, Molly shared it in her local community Facebook group. To her surprise, she wasn't the only one on the receiving end of the gift, with many others revealing they'd found one too in various places throughout the area.

"I too found one being kicked around the floor at Westfield I saw the gift tag & picked it up to hand into centre management lost property. It made me smile when I read the tag," one person revealed.

"It’ll be going on my tree after I’ve laminated the tag to keep with the ornament. Thank you to whoever made it what a great ‘spirit of Christmas’ idea."

Locals touched by 'crochet fairy' 10km away

Meanwhile, some 10 kilometres away in IIlawong another was found and in Menai, a customer spotted the same gift at the counter in IGA.

"Our lovely customer found this tonight at IGA. Thanks to the lovely lady who crocheted this gift. Put a huge smile on our faces," a supermarket worker posted on Facebook on Thursday, a day after Molly's find.

"It made my day after a tough week! Thank you to the crochet fairy," the recipient responded to the post.

The generous act made its way through various community Facebook groups with locals desperate to know who left the "beautiful" gifts.

"I know who made it and left it. She makes them every year and leaves them in random places," one woman eventually revealed. "She is an amazing, wonderful, generous and talented woman."

"A small act of kindness that has gone a long way," one person concluded.
