What’s coming to Disney+ in June? The TV series and films to watch from Avatar 2 to Marvel’s Secret Invasion
The House of Mouse certainly knows how to deliver quality content – it’s been doing it for seventy years.
This June there’s a whole range of new shows and films coming onto Disney+ for people to enjoy. From the mega Box Office hit Avatar, The Way of Water, to Marvel’s new series starring Nick Fury, take a look below to find your next obsession.
Avatar: The Way Of Water – June 7
James Cameron’s 13-year-later sequel was, unsurprisingly, a major hit at the Box Office when it was released in December, making more than $2.3 million worldwide. The story picked up following human Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Na’vi Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) and their new family, who are working together to stay alive on the blue moon, Pandora. Kate Winslet joined the already starry cast.
Saint X – June 7
This new eight-part thriller series, which is based on the best-selling novel by Alexis Schaitkin, tells the story of Alison, a young woman who dies while on holiday in the Caribbean. Years later her sister ends up investigating what happened, and starts to be pulled into the dark drama herself.
Alycia Debnam-Carey (Fear the Walking Dead) stars as Emily Thomas, the surviving sister. Alison is played by West Duchovny (Linoleum). Michael Park (Stranger Things) and Betsy Brandt (Breaking Bad) and Josh Bonzie (The Good Fight) also star.
Killing Eve – Season 2 – June 7
Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Killing Eve series was a major hit, with its four seasons picking up over a dozen awards, including a Golden Globe and an Emmy. The story of a prolific assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and a British intelligence officer Eve (Sandra Oh) who become obsessed with each other as they try and track the other down, makes for an addictive watch.
“It is still stylish, sexy and gorgeous,” said The Guardian. “Watching it feels like lying on a blood-soaked chaise longue and eating cherry liqueurs by the handful.”
The Full Monty – June 14
25 years later, the cast of the hit BAFTA-winning British comedy The Full Monty – which was about former steelworkers who create a striptease act – is back. The eight-part reboot tells the story of what’s happened to the troupe over the last couple of decades, and what they are doing now. Tom Wilkinson, Mark Addy, Robert Carlyle, Lesley Sharp, Hugo Speer, Paul Barber, Steve Huison and Wim Snape all reprise their old roles.
“It has been one of the great joys of my writing career to reunite this eccentric, irrepressible family of Sheffield men and women and see how 25 years, seven Prime Ministers, and 100 broken political promises have affected their lives,” said creator Simon Beaufoy.
Stan Lee – June 16
Stan Lee (1922-2018) is one of America’s most famous comic book writers: he co-created iconic characters including Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, Ant-Man, the Wasp, Doctor Strange, the Scarlet Witch, and Black Widow.
This documentary, which includes snippets of interviews with Lee as well as footage taken from his personal archive, tells the story of his life, and of his career as an employee at the family business Timely Comics, which was formally rebranded as Marvel in 1961.
Secret Invasion – Episode 1 – June 21
This new miniseries, based on the Marvel Comics of the same name, follows Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), the director of the intelligence agency S.H.I.E.L.D, which creates and organises the Avengers. In this six-episode spin-off, Fury is trying to stop the Skrull (Skrull are dangerous shapeshifting aliens) from invading Earth. Emilia Clarke, Martin Freeman, Ben Mendelsohn, and Cobie Smulders also star.
