Claudia Winkleman has admitted she had some concerns about returning for a second season of The Piano.

The Channel 4 reality show, which is hosted by Claudia, will return to screens on April 28, with popstar Mika and renowned classical pianist Lang Lang back to judge amateur pianists as they perform in packed train stations across the country.

The first season had the element of surprise for performers, who didn't know they were being filmed and judged for a reality TV show. However, it was clear this factor would have to be absent from season two and beyond given the pianists were likely familiar with the show, which raised some initial concerns for Claudia.

"We were a little worried, weren't we, all three of us? Because what was so beautiful about the show, which is what happens if people are playing and they don't know anyone's watching," she shared while speaking to OK! Magazine.

"And that is just unbelievably poetic. I'd just never heard of anything like that."

The Strictly Come Dancing and The Traitors presenter went on to share that she had imagined people turning up to the stations in "ball gowns", though quickly realised the magic of the show remained, noting how some pianists didn't even arrive "wearing makeup" knowing they would be on TV.

Claudia also noted how many of the pianists weren't taking part in the show for fame, sharing: "This year, lots of them don't want to continue with music. Somebody, who played really beautifully, I said: 'Do you want music to be part of your life?' He said: 'Music will always be part of my life, but I love working insurance.' That's fair enough. He has a lovely life.

"So they're not coming to 'change my life'. I think they want to feel proud of themselves and they want to make their families and friends proud."

The Piano has also been renewed for a third season, which is expected to arrive sometime next year.

The Piano returns to Channel 4 on April 28 at 9pm.
