Terrifying surprise found inside Brisbane barbecue

An elderly Brisbane couple were shocked after making a surprising find in their barbecue.

Brisbane Snake Catcher Jasmine told Yahoo News Australia she was called to a home in the city’s suburb of Bardon on Thursday.

“The owners were aware there had been rats hanging around the barbecue, so they had recently given it a good clean and were making sure they had been covering it up at night,” she said.

“However, obviously someone else was also aware there had been rats hanging around the barbecue.”

The owners went to the barbecue on Thursday and removed the cover expecting “a rat or two”.

“Instead, they noticed a scaly tail hanging out,” Jasmine said.

It turns out, a one-metre carpet python was hiding inside the barbecue.

“Once they realised who it belonged to, they called us in to safely relocate it,” Jasmine said.

“While they were initially surprised, they weren't really scared of the snake.

“However, it isn't an ideal spot to have a snake lying around, so it was best to get it moved on.”

The snake has since been relocated.

“I said a steak sandwich, not a snake sandwich,” the snake catcher wrote on Facebook.

It’s not that unusual to see a snake pop up in a barbecue.

A Sunshine Coast resident found a coastal carpet python in his barbecue in December.

Another Sunshine Coast resident was preparing to celebrate New Year’s when they found a carpet python in their barbecue too.

Their appearance in barbecues isn’t just limited to spring or summer either.

In July last year, yet another Sunshine Coast resident found a carpet python in their barbecue.
