Car ploughs into Black Lives Matter protesters at Times Square

A car has been filmed driving through a group of Black Lives Matter protesters blocking a street in Times Square, New York City.

Video posted on social media shows the car jerking through the crowd with its horn blaring as demonstrators scream and scramble out of the way.

The crowd was marching to demand justice for Daniel Prude, a black man who was killed during an arrest in March after officers covered his face with a spit hood and pressed his face into the pavement for two minutes.

Several people can be seen standing in front of the black Ford Taurus as it briefly stops before accelerating, although police stated there were no reports of serious injuries.

One cyclist, identified only as Rob, told the Daily News the car “hit me straight on and kept going”.

“My knee is bad and my bike is ruined,” he said.

Another woman said she is “just happy to be alive” after she was hit in the leg by the car.

As the car speeds off, the crowd gives chase. One man attempts to strike the vehicle with his bike.

Another video posted to Twitter before the incident reportedly shows the same car escorting counter-protesters in “Make America Great Again” attire from Times Square.

Following speculation that the car was an unmarked police car, the NYPD took to Twitter to deny it was part of their fleet.

Police told the Daily News they tried to direct the car away from the BLM protest but the driver instead headed straight towards it.

Authorities are now asking for the driver of the vehicle to come forward.
