Bunnings shoppers baffled by bizarre kookaburra item: 'Crying with laughter'
The motion sensor light promises buyers a 'realistic' experience of the native bird but people are mocking what they say is a poor resemblance of a kookaburra.
There's not much you can't buy for your home or garden in Bunnings but one item has caught the attention of shoppers for all the wrong reasons this week, with some finding it hilarious while others rage at the "utter crap" the retailer is selling.
The item in question is a motion sensor light in the shape of a kookaburra which promises to 'bring the serenity of the bush to any home or office environment'. Available for $49 it is advertised as a 'realistic' light which makes sounds to mimic the native bird, yet many have questioned the quality in terms of how the bird looks — with one shopper accusing it of looking like an "angry seagull" instead.
"I spotted these in Bunnings the other day and was crying with laughter. They are even more hideous than the photo would suggest," a shopper wrote online.
Laughing kookaburra rebranded as 'laughable'
The criticism for the motion sensor light was swift as Aussies online ridiculed the image of the botched kookaburra. "The laughing is provided by you when you see it," one wrote online while others called out the "laughable" attempt at resemblance. "Bunnings you've outdone yourself."

However others expressed frustration the retailer was selling low quality goods and using resources on something which they deem "useless".
"They should be ashamed of themselves selling this. As if the world isn’t full of junk as it is. And yet they try and flog this utter crap," another wrote, with another sharing a similar sentiment.
"Actual resources, which were created over billions of years and are irreplaceable, were used to create this absurdly hideous and essentially useless monstrosity of a thing," a shopper wrote.
