Adorable moment boy adopts puppy which shares something in common with him
When two-year-old Bentley Boyers went to the local shelter to look at some chickens with his father, he wasn’t expecting to find a puppy who shares a similar smile.
Bentley was born with a cleft lip and although his parents said he’s always been a happy child, he had a rough start as a baby.
“We had to sit him up to feed him and hold his lip together in order for him to eat,” mother Ashley Boyers told Click on Detroit.
On Friday Bently’s dad spotted the two-month-old female puppy who shared the same cleft lip as his son at a local shelter in Michigan.
“He Face-timed me and said ‘I think this puppy has a cleft lip’ and I said ‘get her’,” Ms Boyers said.
The team at the Michigan’s Jackson County Animal Shelter described it as “instant love” when Bentley first held his new puppy.
“To see him have something in common with a puppy means a lot because he can grow up and understand that he and his puppy both have something that they can share in common,” Bentley’s mother, Ashley Boyers told Click on Detroit.
The shelter said they rarely see dogs with a cleft lip but don’t see any ongoing health issues for the puppy in the future.
“She’s really doing well, she might look a little bit different than other dogs but it’s not slowing her down at all,” a spokesperson for the shelter said.

Sharing the good news on Facebook, the shelter said it was hard to put into words how meaningful the particular adoption was.
“At 2-years-old and with surgeries already under his belt for his cleft lip, Bentley found his match today in this tiny pup who also has a cleft lip.
“We wish many years of joy as this special pair grow up together!” the shelter wrote.
