“All the families are feeling the same as I am, just hoping and praying that he will be ok,” one parent said on Thursday.

The student tripped and fell while running across the yard at lunchtime.

He was raced to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in a critical condition and it was some time before his condition stabilised.

It’s understood he is still in intensive care and was scheduled to have surgery on Thursday.

“You can only imagine what the parents are going through,” one parent said.

As police tried to work out exactly how the accident happened, a school event planned for the evening was cancelled.

In a letter sent home to parents, the school said it was a “tragic accident” that didn’t involve any other students, but the incident is now being investigated by SafeWork SA.
