The bizarre slip hazard sign surprising shoppers

A supermarket in South Australia has raised a few eyebrows for no longer handing out deli meat to kids fearing customers could slip over.

Following on from the saga that was the Bunnings onion slip debacle of 2018, a customer at Foodland, Tanunda in the Barossa Valley snapped a picture of a sign at the deli meat fridge.

“Due to slip hazards, we are no longer able to give out any smiley fritz to children,” the sign reads.

Smiley fritz is also known as Devon outside of South Australia. It’s a type of sausage with a smiley face on it.

Foodland stores are independently owned and operated.

A store rep told the Adelaide Advertiser the sign was erected after a woman slipped over in the store on a piece of the meat.

The meat had been dropped by a child and she hit her head but wasn’t injured.

Foodland SA would not comment on the sign to Yahoo7.

But Yahoo7 understands the sign is legitimate and was put up after someone slipped on the meat.

A picture of the sign was shared on Facebook and it has divided opinion.

“Don’t blame Foodland, blame the parasite leeches who slip, fall and sue,” one man wrote.

A man suggested parents “need to educate their children on correct etiquette” while another woman wrote it’s “totally appropriate” because parents “can’t be bothered” to pick up after their kids.

However, others condemned the sign.

“What a snowflake-ridden country we have become,” one woman wrote.

“So disappointing.”
