Bizarre helicopter stunt outside Aussie pub being investigated

Aviation authorities are now looking into why the pilot of the chopper attempted such an unusual, and potentially dangerous landing.

Diners enjoying their Easter lunch on Sunday were left puzzled and confused after witnessing a helicopter attempt a bizarre landing outside of a restaurant, beside a set of powerlines and a luxury Porsche, with the aircraft narrowly missing both before taking off again.

Mystery surrounds why the chopper, filmed outside of the Victory Hotel in Sellicks Hill, south of Adelaide, attempted the strange stunt, which took place on Main South Road, where traffic was brought to a standstill as a result of the incident.

Locals said at first it looked as though the helicopter was trying to make an emergency landing, with onlookers recording the drama heard saying "that can't be right, that's not right" as it hovers over the road, flying worrying close to the front of the hotel.

Diners feared helicopter would strike pub

In the vision, dust and rocks is seen being flicked onto parked cars as the chopper hovers over the ground, touching the grass for merely a second before it takes off into the air again. Witness Mary Falidis said that diners lunching at the hotel were given a big shock.

"There was dust everywhere, cars stopped on the road, some people got scared in the restaurant once the helicopter faced the restaurant," she said.

"It looked like it was an emergency landing, it might've crashed into the cars, or we thought it might've lost control and came crashing into the restaurant, that's what some people thought.

"Very relived, we just hope that the pilot is OK."

A spokesperson for SA Police said the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority was investigating the matter, and though officers are aware of the video circulating, no police report had been made over the incident.
