Bashed transplant recipient feared he'd 'lose another kidney'

WARNING, GRAPHIC IMAGES. A transplant recipient has been bashed with so much force he feared he’d lose another kidney.

The 24-year-old victim believes his attackers mistook his prescription medication for drugs.

He was bashed senseless and at random at a party in Perth and required 30 stitches to stop his face bleeding.

He was attacked with such force that it perforated his bowel and intestine, but the victim was mostly concerned about his kidney.

Two years ago he underwent his second kidney transplant. He thinks he was bashed for his calcium tablets, which his attackers mistook for illicit drugs.

“A girl I didn’t know follows me out and she goes, ‘where are you going?’ and I said, ‘I’m just going to the car to have some pills’,” the victim said.

“And she goes, ‘pills? What pills?’, and I was like, ‘just calcium tablets’.”

Police allege the same woman was sitting in the victim’s car as he was dragged out and glassed by a man believed to be her boyfriend.

A 33-year-old man has been charged over the bashing, but he wasn’t arrested until a week after the party.

Police say he tried to lay low and they only stumbled on him by chance when they searched home of his friend – who was wanted over a separate incident.
