Are these Australia's most expensive hot chips?

A fish and chip shop has been dubbed “un-Australian” for charging exorbitant amounts for hot chips.

A photo snapped by a diner of the menu at the shop in Adelaide’s seaside suburb Glenelg has caused a stir after it was posted to Reddit.

The photo showed that customers were being charged $6.50 for a small chips, $12.50 for the medium size and a whopping $18.50 for a large.

What was worse, according to those on Reddit, was that a sachet of sauce on the side cost an additional $1, rather than the usual 20 or 30 cents.

“Possibly the most overpriced chips in the country,” the diner who uploaded the photo said on Reddit.

One joked “this madness has to stop”.

“Un-Australian,” another said.

“Sauce – $1 each. When does the Royal Commission start?” another person joked.

Another claiming to have bought fish and chips there recently said despite the meal being expensive, it was “awesome”.

Others said all fish and chip shops in the area were pricey.

“Prices around [Moseley] Square are all similar,” one said.
