Police are investigating how a three-year-old girl was left on a daycare bus in Victoria for up to five hours.
At about 9.15am on Friday, Alyza was put on the bus by her dad Braiden outside their Shepparton home to be taken to Lulla's Children and Family Centre, 9 News reports.
However at 3pm, the family got a call saying the toddler was being taken to hospital in an ambulance. They were allegedly told she was discovered by a staff member, still on the bus in the afternoon.
"When they pulled her out of the kindy bus they stripped her off and put her in the shower," mother Skye Seadon told 9 News. "She still would have been strapped into the car seat."
After arriving to Goulburn Valley Hospital, the mother said her daughter's temperature was around 38.4 degrees, and was kept overnight at the hospital for dehydration.
Ms Seadon expressed her anger about the situation in a Facebook post on the weekend.
“I’m so f***ing sad for my daughter..Imagine what she was feeling and screaming out for no one to come help her!!,” she said on Facebook. “Feeling so f**ing helpless, it makes me so sad to think a daycare centre can just leave a kid in a bus.”
The family has since been contacted by the daycare's director, but they are still baffled at how something like this could happen.
"How do you forget that?" Ms Seadon told 9 News. "I know there's a clipboard there and I'm pretty sure the kids do get marked off when they get picked up."
Police 'investigating' Shepparton bus incident
A spokeswoman told Yahoo News Australia they responded to a report of a child being left on a vehicle on Edward Street, Shepparton on March 10.
"The child was taken to hospital for observation. The investigation is ongoing," they said.
According to Alyza's parents, she has been struggling a bit with sleep since the incident, but is otherwise okay, 9 News reports.
The Aussie Childcare Network last year reported at least 68 children have been left in buses across the country in the last five years, as of June 2022.
Last year on May 4 a Central Queensland three-year-old girl was found unconscious on a bus outside Le Smileys Early Learning Centre.
Nevaeh Austin was allegedly left in the bus for six hours while temperatures soared to 28 degrees.
