Atlassian is among the top 20 companies to work for in 2022, according to a LinkedIn survey, but what exactly is the secret sauce that keeps its employees so happy?
In a candid conversation with Yahoo Finance, Atlassian’s work futurist and thought leader, Dominic Price, answered questions about the hiring process, employee benefits, and what made 'Atlassians’ want to stay for the long haul.

Price said his role involved designing futuristic solutions for teams within Atlassian and also for inspiring people to transform their working lives.
What is Atlassian doing right?
Atlassian offers perks and benefits to support its employees and their families, not only in Australia, but across the globe.
It has a wide variety of offerings, ranging from health coverage to paid volunteer days and fitness classes.
Distributed working allowance, personalised mental health care, access to education, training and resources are some of the other perks offered to support employees.
"Whether they're people that've been with us for 10 years or 10 minutes, investing in people is our number one investment," Price said.
Price said its people-centric, employee-friendly approach had played the greatest role in Atlassian's success and path to becoming one of Australia's best employers.
How to score an interview with Atlassian
Those who know their value and where they want to grow are more likely to strive through the interview process at Atlassian, according to Price.
“The first thing is to know what your skills are and what your superpower is,” Price said.
“I think one of my biggest tips would be to look at our values. The rate of change we go through, the way we give people autonomy and accountability might not be an environment where everyone can survive.
“The ones that apply to Atlassian are generally the people who know what they want to do and can connect that to a role.
“When they do that, we open up our arms and bring them in for interviews, and we start those conversations.”
Tips to get your resume noticed
Price said the resumes that made it easy to match skills to a role were "the ones that get noticed first”.
“When you’re looking at thousands of resumes, you’re looking for the ones where there’s just a loose fit directionally," he said.
"'Does this person feel like they’d be a good fit?' 'Have they got some experience and have they brought that experience to life?'
“There’s a million different types of resumes, but the ones where they tell the story of what they did, what they contributed to a project at their previous organisation are likely to be picked up by Atlassian.”
The shape of things to come
Atlassian built content-collaboration and management workspaces and tools such as Confluence and Trello to meet the growing demands of what work will look like in the future.
These tools are now widely used by companies around the world.
Price said Atlassian’s mission was to unleash potential in every team.
“With teamwork constantly changing, it is essential to build solutions for what teamwork will look like in the future,” he said.
“We listen for feedback and we constantly experiment.
"Whilst we have that awareness and curiosity, we will continue to evolve a culture where people want to work, where they want to stay and where they want to do the best work of their lives.”
