Mum defends massive house party, says riot police was 'overkill'
A mother has defended an out-of-control house party she charged guests $5 for entry, saying it was an overreaction to send out riot police.
Whitley Turner hosted the wild party in a Housing Authority unit in Gosnells, Perth, on Friday, with around 100 guests of all ages rocking up after the event was advertised on Facebook.
The mother-of-four claims she charged $5 for entry to help her move house but insists things were kept under control.
“Yeah it was controlled... I don't know why they shut it down,” Ms Turner said.
“They just walked through the back door and said ‘oh there is too many people here'. They didn’t even go through the back yard – they stood there and were like ‘no it's out of control’.”
Police were tipped off to the party about 9.30pm, when they became aware of large groups of teenagers walking from the train station to Whitley's house on Eudoria Street.
Dozens of police officers descended on the property including multiple police vehicles and officers on horseback.
But Ms Turner believes her gathering should have been given more time claiming: "It wasn’t even 12 by the time they shut it down."
It is believed significant amount of gate crashers also showed up prompting local residents to take to Facebook in anger.
One claimed here was around 100 youths walking towards the train station, smashing up cars with fruit and rocks.
Police allowed Ms Turner to keep the money she had collected, part of which she claimed was to go towards a DJ's fee.
No charges have been laid in connection with the party.
“It was ridiculous... that's all I can say,” she said of the police shutdown.
“Overkill, that's all I can say.”
