Heartbroken grandmother pleads for return of family treasure

A heartbroken western Sydney grandmother is pleading with thieves to return a precious connection with her war hero brother - memorabilia from the war he was killed in.

Dolly Bolton, from Emu Plains, has been robbed three times, but this time what's been taken is irreplaceable.

Her brother, William, died in 1942 aboard the HMAS Kuttabul which sank when Japanese mini subs struck in Sydney harbour.

Priceless memorabilia was taken from Ms Bolton's home.

Nick Fletcher from the Australian War Memorial said William's death was "unfortunate".

"It's unfortunate to be part of the less than two dozen people that were killed when the torpedo struck underneath the boat, it's quite a rare and significant event," he said.

The family are now putting in security cameras as Ms Bolton says she isn't moving.

"Why should I? This is my home," she said.

"If you have that memorabilia I'd be grateful if you would return it and maybe god will forgive you for what you have done."
