Racist hoax letter sent out ahead of Commonwealth Games

Residents on the Gold Coast are being advised to ignore a racist hoax letter with a Commonwealth Games logo and a fake signature from the event's chairman Peter Beattie, which has reportedly been dropped into local letterboxes.

The letter advises Gold Coast residents they would be given "two milking goats" in exchange for hosting a Sri Lankan extended family of eleven people.

“These people will suffer tremendous upheaval and it will take some time for them to adapt to our way of life,” the letter reads.

“So as not to inconvenience you, we shall provide adequate supplies of curry powder, rice, chicken and powdered goats milk.”

The letter also offers free immunisation against "typhus, cholera, tuberculosis and leprosy."

The letter appears to be on official Games letterhead and signs off: "Bless you, Yours in Friendship, Peter Beattie."

However, Beattie was quick to slam the letter, taking to Twitter to declare the signature a "forgery".

"Sadly there are some nasty people in the world," he wrote.

"Please ignore it and tell your friends it is a forgery. The Games are going to be fantastic."

GOLDOC has unequivocally stated that "the letter is a fake and has been handed to Queensland Police who will conduct a preliminary investigation into the motive and origin of its sources."

The apparent hoax follows hot on the heels of a ticketing fiasco in which thousands of error-strewn tickets were sent to spectators.
