Correction: Banana Boat Sunscreen report

On 11 January 2018 Seven News broadcast a report that referred to claims an Adelaide baby had received chemical burns as a result of using Banana Boat Sunscreen and also referred to other complaints having been made in relation to chemical burns.

Those claims are incorrect. The manufacturer of Banana Boat has advised that sunscreens do not contain ingredients that can cause ‘chemical burns’.

Some consumers may experience adverse reactions or irritation, and Banana Boat recommends that users patch test sunscreens before use.

The label warns that if irritation occurs, use should be discontinued.

We apologise that the report did not accurately reflect Banana Boat’s position.
