Flight attendant ordered to pay model $130,000 over business class spill

A South Korean airline and one of its flight attendants have been ordered to pay a model more than $130,000 over burns from spilled instant noodle soup.

An Asiana Airlines flight attendant was serving the noodles to a passenger travelling business class from the South Korean city of Incheon to Paris on March 17, 2014, when the accident occurred, Yonhap News Agency reports.

The former fashion model, known only as Ms Chang, received second and third-degree burns to her lower abdomen, thighs and lap.

She claimed she was unable to work as a model after the incident and that having a normal married life would be difficult because the area where was burnt would make pregnancy and delivery difficult.

Ms Chang filed a lawsuit in 2015, demanding $2 million Korean Won (approximately $233,000) in damages.

She claimed the plane did not have the right emergency supplies to handle burns and she had to rely on ointment, a bag of ice and pain relief tablets to get through the flight.

Asiana Airlines argued that the accident happened because Ms Chang knocked the tray the flight attendant was carrying.

They also claimed they gave her emergency medical treatment after being given instructions by a doctor on board the flight, Yonhap reports.

However, the Seoul Eastern District Court ruled in favour of Ms Chang on Wednesday and ordered a total payment of AUD$130,000 in damages.
