Mother makes shocking discovery inside her 'brand new' fridge

A mother has been left furious after she received what she thought was a new fridge, before making a disgusting discovery inside.

Jacinta Forde from Camden in the UK said she opened the A$875 fridge only to find mould and someone else's food remnants.

"As I opened the front of the box I could smell something and I was thinking: 'where did this smell come from?'," she told Yahoo7.

"As I carried on it got stronger and stronger. I then looked at the water dispenser and thought why is that not covered with plastic as you would expect with a new fridge, so I pressed it. To my horror water came spilling out of it."

Ms Forde said a few seconds later contents in the fridge fell out on top of her.

"I then shouted 'oh my god'," she said.

"I opened the freezer compartment and then saw the mould on each shelf and one of the box drawers covered in it. The smell was so pungent it made me heave and feel sick."

Mr Forde said she immediately contacted the store she purchased it from, Argos, but was shocked at the response of the employee she complained to.

"He said he found it funny as he hadn’t heard of it happening before. I then said 'you may find it funny however I do not'," she said.

"I said: 'I want the delivery men back within an hour to collect it and I want to speak to someone higher up'."

At first the company offered Ms Forde a A$262 discount if she wanted to keep the fridge.

Then the full cost of the fridge was refunded to Ms Forde and she was offered a voucher, but she said she was still disappointed.

"I explained to them it is unacceptable to sell second hand goods misleading customers by thinking we are purchasing brand new appliances," she said.

"At this point I got really mad and said why would I wish to keep a fridge which has clearly been used for some time by someone else," she said.

"It has left me distraught to say the least. Not only that but the inconvenience of having to store it for a further five days which left us with a fire hazard as it was in our stairwell.

"I am disgusted and appalled that such a big company would in this day and age sell products which are not safe to be sold."

Argos has been contacted for comment and has not yet responded.

However, a spokesperson told The Sun the company is "very sorry to hear about Ms Ford’s experience".

“We have fully refunded the total amount and arranged for collection of the faulty fridge to ensure we can thoroughly investigate the cause of what happened," the spokesperson said.

“We have apologised for the inconvenience caused.”
