WATCH: Dogs trapped in hot car, Qld police warning

Queensland Police has released a video of dogs that were left inside a hot car as a timely reminder to pet owners during the heatwave season.

Video shows police finding the car with two dogs inside it at Fortitude Valley in Brisbane with the windows slightly cracked open.

One officer is heard saying "Hi puppy, you're not doing very good today are you? It's very hot."

"Yeah, we'll get them out of there," he said to his colleagues.

The 2016 video was posted to Facebook with the hashtag "This Made Us Barking Mad".

"It's [hot] across Qld today & our furry friends really feel the heat," the post says.

"Why then would you leave a dog (let alone two) in a car with only the window cracked? Fortunately police were able to save these pups, but it doesn't always have a happy ending."

Footage shows the dogs excited to be out of the car and being given some water. Before long the owner arrives at the car.

"The reason we're here is because your dogs were locked in the car and they were hot and distressed," the officer says.

"We've been here for an hour and they were here for an hour and a half before that. That is not acceptable."

The officer then advises the owner that he has actually been warned about leaving his dogs in the car three times prior to this incident.

"It's showing on our system," the officer says.

The owner was given a notice from the RSPCA, according to police.

Police are reminding all pet owners about the importance of keeping pets hydrated and cool during summer.
