Hot air balloon carrying tourists crashes in Egypt

A hot air balloon carrying around 20 people, including tourists, has crashed in Egypt.

At least one person has reportedly been killed near the ancient city of Luxor on Friday, according to security and medical officials.

At least seven people were also injured in the accident and have been hospitalised. Luxor Governor Mahmoud Badr said a statement about the incident would be released shortly, AFP reported.

Egyptian authorities said the incident was caused by strong winds that forced the balloon off course above the city’s pharaonic temples and tombs.

The incident comes after 19 foreign tourists were killed when their balloon caught fire in the same city in 2013.

More to come.
