Nurses fired after video emerges of them squashing newborn baby's face

WARNING - DISTRESSING CONTENT: A group of Saudi nurses have been fired after they filmed themselves laughing as they jokingly squashed the face of a newborn baby who was hospitalised with an infection.

The footage emerged on social media showing at least one nurse squeeze the visibly distressed baby’s face while grasping it’s neck.

The baby’s mortified parents learned of the horrific footage, resulting in three nurses from the maternity hospital in Taif, Saudi Arabia being suspended immediately.

“The Health Affairs investigated the source of the video and was able to identify the nurses who appeared in the video and the hospital where the incident took place,” Taif Health Affairs spokesman Abdulhadi Al-Rabie said.

"The nurses were immediately suspended by the order of Director of Taif Health Affairs Saleh Al-Muanis."

The baby is not believed to have been injured in the incident.

All three nurses, who have not been named, have since been fired, had their medical licences revoked and have been banned from practicing nursing in every department.

The baby's devastated father told Saudi media the baby had remained in the hospital for treatment of a urinary tract infection.
