According to the Benton County Sheriff's Office in Washington, Arianda Hernandez-Lopez, 21, filed a police report on October 9, telling police she had been raped two days earlier.

Detectives investigated her claims for a month while Ms Hernandez-Lopez underwent a medical examination and stayed in a local women's shelter, 5 News Online reports.

In a police interview, the complainant told detectives she had been raped by a man who had broken into her friend's apartment.

However, the friend later told detectives that Ms Hernandez-Lopez and the accused man had been living together in the apartment for several days, according to the affidavit.

At a follow-up interview on November 21, Ms Hernandez-Lopez allegedly admitted the two had had consensual sex, the affidavit states.

She was immediately arrested following the interview and taken to Benton County Jail, where she remains without bond.

Ms Hernandez is facing charges punishable by up to six years in prison and a fine of $13,120.
