SA Lotto winner's heart-warming first thought after scoring $20m

A South Australian mother's instant reaction to winning $20 million in an Oz Lotto draw was one of complete disbelief followed by an urge to help others.

The winner, from the Orroroo region north of Adelaide, took home the highest division one prize won in the state since 2014 and broke down in tears.

“I’d heard there was a winning ticket in the region but didn’t think it was me," the woman told SA Lotteries, The Flinders News reported.

“Fair dinkum. I can’t believe this.

“I’m from a long line of hard workers. Every time I stop and think about it, I think how many people can I help with this?

"It has come at the most appropriate time! It’s huge!"

The mother said she had only just started playing Oz Lotto and used the same numbers each week in line with family tradition.

She selected numbers that were sentimental to her family and purchased the ticket at IGA Orroroo.

The IGA owner, Ahmah Ramadam, said the win is "great news for the small country town" and is glad the ticket was sold to a local.
