Mum told she is dying from cancer is helped by ex-husband's new wife

A woman battling stage four cervical cancer is getting help from an unlikely source - her ex-husband's new wife.

Nicola Hitchen, a mother of two, was diagnosed with untreatable stage four cervical cancer just four months ago.

Determined to keep living her life, she turned to a pioneering clinic in Turkey, with her aggressive tumour shrinking after just five 10-day therapy sessions, The Mirror reports.

But the therapy didn't come cheap - costing her over £80,000 ($A140,000).

Her ex-husband's wife, Clare, stepped in to ask others for help to raise £50,000 ($AU 85,000) so Ms Hitchen can complete her treatment.

“This is not an option – the boys need their mum and she deserves the chance to watch them grow into men," Clare said.

Ms Hitchen said she is "overwhelmed" by everyone, "especially Clare".

Doctors were unable to treat Ms Hitchen until an infection in her abdominal area cleared, leaving the disease to grow from stage two to stage four in just seven weeks.

“You accept this is what’s happening and sort your affairs out – or you start looking at other options. The first wasn’t an option," she said.

The pioneering clinic uses a combination of chemo, heat and complementary therapy and since her first session in July, the tumour has almost gone.

A fundraising page has been set up with almost £6,500 ($AU 11,000) raised.

“The support I’ve been given is phenomenal, not just from my family but from complete strangers too," Ms Hitchen said.
