Holiday hell: Aussie woman risks losing leg after scooter crash in Thailand

An Australian woman has had her leg crushed in a scooter accident while celebrating her 30th birthday in Thailand.

Stacey Liddle, from Brisbane, was riding a scooter in Phuket with her friend when she collided with a bus and was "dragged under."

"The back wheels of the bus drove over her,” the woman's friend, Sinead Markham, told news.com.au.

Ms Markham said her friend was not moving and she immediately thought she had died in the crash.

“She finally made a moaning sound and then we both started screaming because we saw how bad her leg was," she said.

Ms Liddle is being treated at Vachira Phuket Hospital and has had 10 blood transfusions.

She now faces losing the leg altogether and cannot feel anything below her left knee.

Family and friends are now trying to raise money to have Ms Markham flown home to Australia for treatment.

"We need to raise $30,000 to pay for her transport home so they don't amputate her leg," her cousin, Katrina Liddle, wrote on a GoFundMe page.

Ms Markham has said the hospital staff have been slow in changing the sheets and was scared her friend would contract an infection.

She said her friend is in "a lot of pain, agony and discomfort."
