Popular pho stall warned after customer finds maggots in food

Vietnamese food stall What The Pho has been issued a warning by ACT Health after a woman claimed she found maggots in a meal from the company.

The customer who discovered the maggots in her meal from the popular food van was with workmates at the time.

Public servant Brendan Ryan said his colleague had already eaten some of the meal when she noticed something crawling in it, ABC reports.

"She didn't know what to do. She sort of freaked out and next thing she's over trying to actually throw up in the bin," he said.

Mr Ryan says he wasn't impressed with the company's response when he went and complained about the contamination.

He says the owner of What The Pho initially apologised for the incident but when he went and checked the rest of the stock, he came back and claimed "the rest of it is alright".

Mr Ryan said he was "stunned".

Despite the discovery of the maggots, ACT Health has allowed the business to continue trading as there aren't any issues to warrant immediate closure.

"This business is working with ACT Health to rectify the issues identified, during which time the business may continue trading," a statement from ACT Health read.

What The Pho was at The Hamlet — a group of independently run food vans in Canberra's inner-north suburb of Braddon.

The Hamlet's owner Nik Bulum said What The Pho would be asked to leave if the maggots were proven to "be his [the owner's] fault".

What The Pho is run independently of other businesses of The Hamlet and is not involved in its management.
