'What the pilot sees and passengers don't': Video shows 'terrifying' view from the cockpit

A pilot has offered an incredible view from inside the cockpit with a series of YouTube videos showing what it’s like to be at the controls of an aircraft.

Qatar Airways captain Sandeep Varma uploaded a number of videos showing the view from the clouds.

One of the pilot’s videos shows the spectacular view of the clouds and the mountains above Queenstown on New Zealand’s South Island.

Snow-capped peaks are washed over by a sea of white clouds as the sun pierces through the mountain tops.

As the plane descends visibility drops too as thick clouds clump on the windows.

The city of Queenstown then appears with calm Lake Wakatipu coming into view ahead of the landing strip.

The video has more than 87,000 views on YouTube and has more than 26,000 re-tweets on Twitter with many left awe-struck by the vista from above.

“This is what the pilot sees and the passengers do not see,” Mr Varma tweeted.

“Absolutely amazing. Through the clouds. Longest flight in the world,” one user tweeted.

“Would pay extra for that seat, astonishing,” another said.

While some were amazed, many others were horrified by the descent through the mountains as seen from the front of the plane.

“Bloody terrifying,” one user tweeted.

“Wow. Beautifully frightening,” another commented.
