Nursing home worker sentenced to year in prison for abusing 95-year-old woman
A US caregiver at a nursing home has been jailed for a year after video emerged of her physically abusing an elderly woman in a wheelchair.
Roxann Bucchan-Straker, 48, from Maryland, pleaded guilty to abusing an elderly woman in her care, Fox News 2 reports.
The abuse happened at the Springvale Terrace retirement community in Silver Spring in 2015.
In the video Bucchan-Straker is seen serving the elderly woman food.
She places the tray down in front of the woman and slaps the 95-year-old in the face.
“Don’t mess with me,” she says, prodding her.
The 48-year-old then sits next to her and smacks her twice as the elderly woman tries to wipe her mouth with a napkin.

“Eat,” she yells as the woman as he drinks, pointing at her plate.
Bucchan-Straker slaps the 95-year-old on the head again twice, once with phone.
“Drink your coffee,” she says.
Bucchan-Straker was given an additional three years probation along with her prison sentence.
