Man wins fight to the death with seven-metre python
A man is recovering in hospital after surviving a fight with a seven-metre python in Indonesia.
Robert Nababan, 37, was riding home from work on his moped when he came across the giant snake in the Indragiri Hulu Regency of Riau Province in Indonesia, The Mirror reports.
Mr Nababan said the python was blocking two pedestrians from crossing the street so he decided to move it.
“I tried to catch it,” he said.
“But it bit my arm and we wrestled for a while.”
Pedestrians watched on in horror as the snake ripped into Mr Nababan’s arm.
But after a long and exhausting struggle, the 37-year-old managed to kill the 23-foot serpent.
Its body is seen in pictures hanging across his village like a washing line with children sitting on it.
Gruesome photos show the extent of Mr Nababan’s injuries with large lacerations seen in his arm.
He is still recovering in hospital, The Mail Online reports.
It’s believed the snake may have been a reticulated python – one of the largest snakes in the world.
According to Australia Zoo, the species can reach 10 metres in length and while they are non-venomous they constrict, squeeze and suffocate their prey to death.

The 37-year-old’s fate is better than that of a man from West Sulawesi who faced a giant reticulated python in March.
Akbar Salubiro, 25, was found dead inside the stomach of a 7m python weighing 158kg, The Tribun Timur reports.
Locals believe Mr Salubiro was swallowed whole.
