Petition calls for Australian banknote to be added to the list of emojis
Whether you love them or loathe them, emojis have become part and parcel of everyday life when using your mobile phone.
From the much-loved 'smiley face with tears of joy' emoji to a pair of clinking beer glasses, the list of miniature icons you can use seems endless.
But according to Greater Bank, there is one emoji that Australians are calling out for.
Users have the choice of American Dollars, Chinese Yuan, British Pound and the Euro when talking all things money, but the Australian Dollar is nowhere to be seen among the world's top currencies.
Taking inspiration from a campaign to install 'ginger-haired' emojis to the vast collection, a petition has been set up by the bank to add the Australian $50 note to the thousands of emoticons that currently exist.
"We're conscious that change is coming to our world. The way our customers pay each other, structure their finances, and how well they expect us to know them is changing," a Greater Bank spokesperson said.
"With this in mind, our thinking turned to the fact that millions of Australians are talking about money every day, but are using the wrong emoji."
The petition will eventually be submitted to the Unicode Emoji Consortium, who consider all suggestions for new emojis.
