Are you a genius? Take the world's shortest IQ test

The world's shortest IQ test is leaving many scratching their heads.

But if you can answer all three questions, you could be a genius.

The Cognitive Reflection Test is made up of seemingly simple questions that require thinking outside the box.

Experts say the timeframe of answering the questions is almost as important as getting them correct, according to The Sun.

The world's shortest IQ test questions are as follows:

1. A bat and a ball cost $1.10 in total. The bat costs $1.00 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?

2. If it takes five machines five minutes to make five widgets, how long would it take 100 machines to make 100 widgets?

3. In a lake, there is a patch of lily pads. Every day, the patch doubles in size. If it takes 48 days for the patch to cover the entire lake, how long would it take for the patch to cover half of the lake?

If you happened to answer 10 cents for question one, 100 minutes for question two and 24 days for question three, you'd be wrong.

The correct answers take a bit more thought.

The combined cost of the ball and the bat is $1.10
The combined cost of the ball and the bat is $1.10

Answers:

  1. Five cents.

The combined cost of the ball and the bat is $1.10, so if the ball cost 10 cents, the bat would have to be $1.10.

The bat costs $1 MORE than the ball, therefore the ball must cost five cents, making the bat $1.05.# Five minutes

If it takes five machines five minutes to make five widgets, then it must take one machine five minutes to make one widget.

Therefore 100 separate machines would take five minutes to make 100 widgets.# 47 days

If the patch is doubling in size each day, it is doubling what is already there each time.

Therefore on day 47, the patch would be halfway there and then double to completely cover the lake by day 48.
