Australian woman, 27, killed after falling off the back of boyfriend's scooter in Bali

A 27-year-old Australian woman has been killed in a scooter crash in Bali.

It's understood she was a pillion passenger on a bike with her boyfriend driving at the time of the crash on Monday morning in Kuta.

The Queensland woman was pronounced dead as she arrived at Denpassar Hospital from injuries sustained in the crash, News Corp reports.

The man, 28, wasn't badly hurt in the crash and was taken in by police for questioning before he was later released.

The couple were reportedly wearing helmets at the time.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed to 7 News Online that an Australian woman died in the crash.

"The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to the family of a woman who died in a traffic accident in Bali and a man detained after the accident," the spokesperson said.

"For privacy reasons we are unable to provide further details."

DFAT continues to warn Australians about riding scooters in the Indonesian city.

The 27-year-old woman is the fourth Australian to die in a motorbike or scooter-related accident in Bali in the past year.

In April this year, Queensland woman Ella Knights was killed in a scooter crash.

Last year, 16-year-old Lochie Connaughton and 42-year-old Adrian Newon died just a month apart, both in scooter and motorbike accidents.
