'I win, I win': Queenslander gatecrashes charity race, steals bike then eats pavement

An amateur cyclist has quite literally stolen the win in a charity bike race that he hadn't even entered.

His 30 second joy ride was captured on camera by 7 News and shows riders lined up ready to race.

While listening to the national anthem, a man breaks from the pack of riders and is heard saying "I win! I win!".

For a few minutes everyone is left wondering what the man is doing when someone is heard saying "that bike's stolen, that bikes stolen".

The chase is then on with a man sitting down with breakfast taking off first.

Others waste no time and follow, trying anything to stop the man on the bike.

The man cops a cup of water to the face but continues pedalling.

Carving a path along Surfers Paradise Beach, video shows competitors and spectators finally restrain the man until police take over.

"What am I getting arrested for?" the man is heard saying.

He was taken to the watch house and charged with stealing a competitor's bike.

The man who bravely took him down is Lachlan from local radio station, Hot Tomato.

The charity event was raising money for Mates 4 Mates, supporting wounded soldiers.
