Woman, 61, stuck in swimming pool uses Facebook to get help

A woman had to turn to Facebook for help after she got stuck in her swimming pool.

Leslie Kahn, 61, said she swims every summer in backyard pool in Epping, in the US state of New Hampshire.

But when Ms Kahn, a breast cancer survivor, went for a dip on August 11, the pool ladder broke and left her stuck in the water, according to CBS.

She tried to climb out but couldn’t manage to find the strength.

“Because I don’t have the agility or the upper body strength that I used to,” she said.

“I was thinking I might be here a while because my tenants were out, nobody was home. My phone was inside.”

Ms Kahn noticed her old iPad was on a chair on the pool deck.

She grabbed a pole, hooked a leg of the chair, dragged it over and hopped online to call for help.

Ms Kahn posted her SOS on “Epping Squawks”, a community Facebook group and within minutes she had a response.

“911! My pool ladder broke while I was trying to get out of the pool. Home alone, phone is inside. I need someone to bring tools and help me change the streps so I can get out of the pool. Im (sic) serious. I don’t (sic) habe (sic) the ability to climb out any other way. Hunter drive,” he post read.

A woman who lived nearby showed up followed by police and a neighbour to Ms Kahn’s house and used a ladder to get her out.

Despite facing an urgent situation, Ms Kahn said she still managed to laugh during and after the incident.

“What else can you do?” she said.
