Etihad flight linked to alleged terror plot investigation
An alleged terror plot to bring down a passenger plane may have involved an Etihad flight out of Sydney, according to reports.
The flight set to depart from Sydney to Abu Dhabi would have had as many as 500 people on board, according to News Corp.
It follows a discovery police made on Monday in a garbage bin outside a Lakemba home, after four men were arrested over the alleged terror plot.
Officers seized a flight number for a Jakarta to Sydney route inside a bin.
A letter with the Surry Hills address raided by counter-terrorism police on Saturday was also found in the bin at the property.
Both pieces of evidence were placed inside a bag along with prescription medicine as police continued their investigation.
The alleged plot was believed to have involved a bomb disguised as a meat mincer and, or a device used to secrete gas.
Four men, Mahmoud Khayat, Khaled Khayat, Khaled Merhi and Abdul Merhi, have been arrested in connection with the alleged terror plot.
According to Fairfax, one of the sons of Khaled Khayat studied aviation management at the UNSW.
The man also reportedly mixed with a network of pilots and airline workers.
He has not been arrested, nor is he facing questioning.
The investigation continues.
