ISIS fighter's bride reveals horror of life in the 'caliphate'

The wife of an ISIS fighter has opened up about how she met her husband on a Muslim dating website and was forced to move to Syria's so-called "caliphate".

Islam Milat, 23, had been married to Ahmed for just three months and had planned to move to the UK when he told her he had a new job in Turkey and needed them to instead go there.

From Turkey, the physics student, aged just 20 at the time, was "forced" to travel to Syria for her husband to become a jihadist fighter, The Sunday Times reported.

“I just wanted to have a normal life with my husband and my kids. That is the problem with us women. We trust men too much,” she said.

On arrival in Syria, Ms Milat was told to live with British teenagers who had become ISIS brides and said the home became known as "Little Britain."

She said she was left "shocked" after realising the teenagers enjoyed reading about themselves in the UK press.

Not long after they arrived in Syria and she gave birth to son Abdullah, Ms Milat's husband was killed in battle.

The young woman said she was quickly married off to a German Afghan fighter who banned her from leaving the house and seeing friends.

She eventually managed to divorce her second husband, but was forced to marry again as the "caliphate" did not let women stay single for long.

Her new husband, an Indian-Australian fighter, allowed her to live among the Syrian people and have friends.

She fell pregnant soon after with her second child, a little girl named Maria, according to The Sunday Times.

Ms Mitat said the airstrikes then got so bad the community had no electricity or running water and the streets were often full of bodies.

She managed to escape to northern Syria after posing as the family member of a friend and pretending they were going to a wedding.

“I was so happy,” said Ms Mitat. “Imagine for three years it was dark, like in a cave. Now it’s light.”

The young woman and her two children were taken by the YPG Kurdish defence force to a safehouse in northern Syria where she has been for four months.

Ms Mitat is now trying to return to family in Morocco and is collaborating with authorities to help her case.
