Woman's sickening discovery at bottom of her beer bottle

A New Zealand woman claims she found a decomposing lizard in her bottle of beer on the weekend.

Donna Metcalfe, from Canterbury, snapped a photo of what looks like a small lizard in the bottom of her bottle of Pure Blonde and posted it to the beer’s Facebook page.

“Thanks for the dead lizard at the bottom of my beer! What are your quality controls? You will be hearing from the media outlets in my country very soon!” she posted.

According to Stuff.co.nz, Ms Metcalfe had just sat down to enjoy the beer on Saturday when she noticed the dead reptile at the bottom of the bottle.

"I was drinking it and not paying it any attention, and something touched my mouth. It looked like a little baby lizard, and I instantly felt really sick and thought 'oh, you've got to be joking me',” she said.

Ms Metcalfe said she felt unwell and lost 2kg since she discovered the lizard.

Pure Blonde beers are bottled in Australia by Carlton & United Breweries.

Ms Metcalfe said because of the brewing location she rang the National Poison Centre “immediately” out of fear the lizard could be a poisonous Australian animal.

Carlton & United corporate affairs advisor Sabine Wolff said the company took Metcalfe's complaint very seriously and was undertaking an internal investigation.

"We have reached out to the consumer to understand the facts and check to see if she has any health issues," Ms Wolff said.
