A family has been reunited with their dog after it went missing following a serious car accident.
Erica Cruz and Trenton Ray were separated from their white Labrador-retriever mix Daisy Mae after a semi-trailer slammed into the back of their car in Texas on July 11, according to NBC.
While the pair were taken to hospital their dog vanished.
Erica suffered two fractures to her back while her partner had head and neck injuries, and on returning home she put out an appeal to find the missing dog.
"In the mix of this tragedy, my sweet baby, Daisy went missing,” she posted on Facebook.
"There were no signs of her deceased in the car which means she fell out of the car during the wreck. State Troopers ran up and down the highway looking for remains of her and nothing was found.”
Erica said her and her partner would have searched themselves but are still recovering from their injuries.
Luckily, Mutts and Mayhem Animal Rescue came to their aid and volunteers scoured near the crash site to find Daisy Mae.
And after a search at a nearby embankment on Sunday, the dog was found.
"It appears that Daisy likely has a fractured Pelvis and Femur,” the rescue team posted on its Facebook page.
"Her left leg is swollen twice the size that it should be. Daisy could no longer walk from her injuries...so had we not made our way to her, she wouldn't have been able to find help on her own.”
Erica thanked the group on Facebook for finding Daisy as the dog prepares to undergo surgery.
"You all are amazing people,” she posted.
Mutts and Mayhem Animal Rescue said it will pay for all of Daisy's medical expenses via money raised on its website.
