Toddler dies after suffering significant burns, cardiac arrest

Police are investigating after a two-year-old girl who went into cardiac arrest in Brisbane died in hospital early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the home at Ridge Street in Northgate about 3.30pm on Thursday, where they found the toddler unconscious and suffering serious injuries, including significant burns.

Her injuries are believed to have been a week old, and paramedics were only called to the property when the girl went into cardiac arrest on Thursday afternoon.

While paramedics were treating her, they noticed the other injuries on her body and that's when they called police.

It is understood her parents told the police that the burns had occurred due to hot bath water.

Police are treating the death as suspicious.

The family of a two-year-old Queensland girl who died in hospital after suffering serious burns was not being investigated by the Child Safety department at the time of her death.

Earlier reports suggested the family had already been under investigation but Child Safety Minister Shannon Fentiman said that was not the case.

"I can confirm that the Department of Child Safety was not currently investigating or involved with this family at the time of this tragic incident," she said.
